Mountain Dew Cake

by Carrie on September 11, 2008

I saw this on my google reader a while ago and thought of Adam, he loves Mountain Dew, I don’t care for it, so I bought the stuff and then bought a box of rainbow cake mix and frosting. I got home yesterday and there was cupcakes sitting on the table for me, so I knew I better make this cake for him.

I thought this cake would be dry without a glaze so I googled and found one and halved the recipe which still seemed to be too much. Adam said this was good, just tasted like lemon to him. Not the best pictures but you get the idea :)

Mountain Dew Cake (From: My Yummy Goodness, Originally From: Paula Deen)

  • 1 (18.25 oz) box lemon cake mix
  • 1 (3.4 oz) box lemon flavored instant pudding mix
  • 1 (12 oz) can Mountain Dew
  • 3/4 c. Vegetable Oil
  • 4 large eggs

Preheat oven to 325 degrees

Lightly grease and flour a 10-cup bundt pan

In a large mixing bowl, combine cake mix and pudding mix.

Add soda, oil and eggs. Beat at medium speed with an electric mixer until smooth.

Pour batter into prepared pan, and bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.

Let cool in pan for 10 minutes. Remove from pan and let cool completely on a wire rack.

Mountain Dew Cake Glaze (From: Recipelink)

  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. Mountain Dew
Mix together glaze ingredients and boil for 2 minutes. Pour glaze over cake while hot. Let cool. Turn out out onto platter.

I love baking in bundt pans… and I think this picture came out pretty good! In fact, you could even submit this to the Tasty Tools blogging event this month since we’re focusing on bakeware! :)

Ahh, this cake is soooo good. It doesn’t tast Mt. Dewy to us either, but it’s oh so moist. I may try it with that glaze next time.

This sounds pretty rich…cake mix AND pudding? I’ve never been able to bring myself to make anything with soda in it (like coke cupcakes), but I trust your judgement!

My husband’s grandmother has been baking him this cake for years, and made us one for our wedding cake at our redneck wedding this past may. We love it!!

I was unable to have success making the cake with HER recipe, however, the one I found here on your website is great and I’m having great luck with it.

Glad I found your site!!

I love this cake! Last time I made this I used pineapple soda, pineapple cake mix, coconut pudding mix and subbed crushed pineapple for the oil. Delicious!!! The longer it sat, the better it tasted. Tasted like a pina colada. Planned on making one this afternoon but my grocery store was out of pineapple cake mix so I bought a banana cake mix, pineapple soda, coconut pudding and the crushed pineapple for the oil (I did use the 4 eggs). Hope it turns out yummy!

*if topping the cake with the glaze – be sure to poke holes in top of the cake so the yummy glaze can seep into the cake – the cake has to be still hot to do this!

My son-in-law, a doctor, doesn’t like for his children to have caffeine and Mt. Dew is one of the highest sodas in caffeine. My grandchildren love this cake so I use other lemon or lemon-lime sodas and the results are just as good.

I made this cake but glazed it with a lemon glaze. I mixed 1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice, and 1/2 teaspoon butter extract and them spooned it over the warm cake. It was sooooo fresh and yummy!
