Cinnamon Sugar Nuts

by Carrie on January 3, 2011

I don’t like nuts, or atleast that is what I thought. I enjoy peanuts but otherwise I pass by the nuts. Even in recipe I always omit them unless I think they are vital in the recipe. A few weeks back I went to my moms house to bake some cookies and she had these in the oven. I quickly turned my nose up, cause I don’t like them.

She said but you haven’t had these. Sure enough I loved them and bought another bag so that she could make more for me… Yea I know I COULD make them but what fun would that be, funner for her to do it and me enjoy the benefit.

Cinnamon Sugar Nuts (From: My Mom)

  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 1 pound pecan halves
  • 1 pound almonds
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Grease one baking sheet.
In a mixing bowl, whip together the egg whites until frothy.  Add water, vanilla, sugar, salt, and cinnamon.  Mix well.
Add nuts to mixture and stir until coated. Spread the nuts out on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake at 250 degrees for 1 hour. Stir every 15 minutes.
Cool on wax paper

I love sugared nuts. They’re even more delicious when they’re warm.
