I first came across this cake when a co-worker had a piece, it was just a piece of black cake with the toppings piled on I thought it would be fun to create a layer cake.
When deciding how to make it work, I was nervous about the pudding soaking in the cake but it didn’t and actually this cake was best the next day. I know I used a lot of box stuff to make this, I would like to try it again making it more homemade.
Black Forest Cake (From: Myself)

- 1 box dark chocolate cake mix
- eggs (add one more then cake mix calls for)
- water
- oil
- 1 can cherry pie filling
- 1 box cook and serve vanilla pudding
- 2 cups half and half
- 1 sm. carton whipping cream
- 3/4 c. powdered sugar
Prepare cake mix according to box directions add 1 extra egg to mix.
Bake according to directions in 2 round pans. Cool according to directions.
Prepare pudding according to directions on box, using half and half in place of milk.
Let pudding cool completly.
Whip whipping cream in Kitchen Aid mixer, when comes to a creamy mixture add powdered sugar and whip until desired consistancy.
Place one round cake on cake platter, spread pudding across the top, then spread 1/4 can of cherry pie filling ontop of pudding. Place other cake on top.
Spread whip cream around cake, on the top and the sides. Then pour the rest of the pie filling over the top of cake and drizzle down sides if desired.
Serve chilled.
